Colors and Emotions Across Cultures and Individuals

Why do we see red, feel blue, or turn green with envy? In this talk, Domicele Jonauskaite, PhD, will present the most recent scientific findings on the links between colors and emotions. Most of the data have been collected within the framework of their International Color-Emotion Association survey, running in 80 countries and 46 languages, with more than 100 collaborators and over 15’000 participants.

Bio

Domicele Jonauskaite, PhD, is an experimental color psychologist, studying cognitive and affective connotations of color across cultures and individuals. More recently, she has expanded her research to aesthetics and blindness. Domicele Jonauskaite is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Vienna in Austria. Previously, she obtained a PhD degree in Psychology from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and her contribution to science has been recognized with several prestigious awards. Her research positions have been supported with two personal career fellowships from the Swiss National Science Foundation. Together with Christine Mohr, PhD, Déborah Epicoco, and Nele Dael, PhD, they have founded the Colour Experience platform (https://www.colourexperience.ch) designed to disseminate scientifically validated empirical research on psychological effects of color.



The Inter-Society Color Council advances the knowledge of color as it relates to art, science, industry and design.
Each of these fields enriches the others, furthering the general objective of color education.
